Will I get seasick or motion sickness? (From KK of San Diego, Ca) |

Today's cruise line ships are getting bigger and bigger and typically advance with technology.
Through the use of things such as fin stabilizers, unless you are going through a storm, chances are you won't even notice you are on a ship. However, not every one is the same. For me, I've never had a problem on a cruise ship (but I spent 22 years in the US Navy, so I'm used to the sea life). But I've traveled with folks who have experienced a touch of motion sickness. If you are of the mind set that you WILL get sea sick or experience motion sickness - then chances are you will. A simple reversal of this mind set can do wonders. A couple of hours before your ship gets underway for the first time, go ahead and take a dramamine or whatever your choice for motion sickness medicine might be. Dramamine can be purchased over the counter at most grocery and convenience stores. My wife generally takes 1 dramamine tablet at noon (for a 4:00pm underway time) and then 1 more the following morning when she wakes up. This has no doubt helped her and she has not gotten "sick". If you have a choice for your cabin when you book your cruise, I would suggest getting a cabin near or on the 1st deck - and in the middle of the ship. Like I mentioned earlier - often times it is a simple mind set. If you don't think about it and let it overwhelm your thought process, you'll be good to go. |
